About domains and DNS
What is an A record?
A DNS record that maps a hostname to an IPv4 address.
Updated: October 9, 2026
An A record maps a DNS name to a 32-bit IPv4 address. It is commonly used to publish the destination of websites and APIs.
Reading the result
A name may have multiple A records. NetKarte displays every address returned together with its TTL.
Limitations
An A record does not prove ownership or safety. CDNs and load balancing can make answers vary by location and time.
Compare multiple destinations
In an illustrative result, 192.0.2.10 and 192.0.2.11 under one Name are two records, not pieces of one IP. Read each Name, Value, and TTL together and compare your DNS configuration. Display order alone does not identify primary and standby servers.
Enter the hostname in DNS Lookup, select A as the record type, complete verification, and search.
Then check AAAA or CNAME for the same name if needed. A successful DNS answer is not a successful web connection. For no records, check the name; for an error, check the query status. These are different outcomes.
